Know Your Executive Committee 2023 – 25

 

Pankaj Sapru (President), 1976-83, won the Mathematics Form Prize for four consecutive years in Sanawar; excelled in dramatics and public

speaking; was appointed the M.I. Prefect and House Captain – Himalaya; awarded School Colours for proficiency in Cricket and Soccer and

captained the House First XIs in Cricket, Soccer and Hockey.
 

After graduating in Economics (Hons.) with Mathematics, and a Post Graduate Degree in Marketing from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute

of Management Studies, Bombay, he led an accomplished 31+ years career in the Petroleum Downstream sector, working for

Oil majors – Bharat Petroleum, Reliance Industries and ConOil PLC, Nigeria, specializing in Business Strategy, Marketing &

Brand Management, Communication and Customer Care.

 

Bidding farewell to the corporate world at 53, he decided to devotedly follow his dream, i.e., travel the world to pursue his passion for

Photography. Retirement allowed him to devote to his lifelong aspiration to ‘Give Back’ to his alma mater.

 

A passionate Old Sanawarian, he remained Batch Coordinator for two decades; and spearheaded the Silver Jubilee Batch donation effort

to collect Rs.23 Lacs to install a 10KLD capacity STP. He served on the Nominating Committee 2019-2021 & 2021-23 as a Block

Representative, Member – Executive Committee 2019-2021, Vice President – Executive Committee 2021-22, and President-Elect 2022-23.

His noteworthy accomplishments are managing the OS Directory; structuring the OSS Communication Strategy; establishing an OS

Photographers’ Club; revamping the OSS Website; burning the midnight oil as a Member of the MOA Amendment Committee; curating

and publishing “Tales of Sanawar” (1700+ copies have been sold till date); and organizing the first-ever OSS Literary Festival 2022.

 

Having gained the necessary skills, competencies, and operational expertise, he now takes over as OSS President 2023-25, and as a

Member of the LS(S)S and Board of Governors.

Adarsh Butail (President Elect), Vindhya 1987, Has 33+ years of experience having held diverse executive and administrative charters, 

as a leader in the Indian Army. He is a committed and spirited Sanawarian, always forthcoming to devote his time and energies towards 

promoting Brand Sanawar. While in School, he was awarded Best in Commerce prize - 1987   

 

A Hodson’s medallist for 3 consecutive years, Medal winner for School in IPS Athletics, School Athletics and Gymnastics teams for which 

he was awarded School Colours and School Prefect- Vindhya. Both his daughters, Aastha and Aditi, are also OS. He has remained 

involved with Sanawar centric activities ever since passing out.  

 

He is the founding Secretary of Sanawar 87 Trust and part of core team which planned and organised a landmark event, 

'Sanawar Success Summit’, under the aegis of the OSS, at Delhi, and   Career Counselling sessions, by professionals, at Sanawar, in 2008. 

He has been the Batch Coordinator [1987] for 17+ years and has served as Elected Block Representative (Block Pre-1990) on the 

Nominating Committee 2021-23 and 2023-25

 

He brings to the table skills and competencies in planning, resource mobilisation and execution of complex tasks under demanding situations.

Amarjyot Singh Hundal (Vice-President), Himalaya 1992, imbibed “Never give in” from childhood, being brought up in the environment of one

of the oldest Cavalry regiments of the Indian Army – a regiment that has deep-rooted ties with Sanawar since its inception and also abides

by the motto “Death before Surrender”.

 

Amarjyot honed his ‘never give in’ spirit further during his 8 years at Sanawar. As an avid sportsman, he was part of the Atoms, Colts, and

School XI for Cricket, Soccer, Hockey, Squash, and Badminton. He won 5 individual championships in a span of 8 years, including a tie for

the prestigious Kalinga Cup.

 

He chose to become a merchant mariner and worked for most of his sailing career for a Norwegian company. It provided him an opportunity

to travel the globe and hence broaden his horizon and intercultural understanding. Collaborating with colleagues from different

nationalities promoted personal growth of communication skills and cultural awareness.

 

He switched gears to create Pan-Asian dining experiences in Delhi, along with his wife Ritika. Presently, he is a Director in a security

company.

 

A die-hard Sanawarian, he has been a Member of the Nominating and Executive Committees in the past and is always willing to forward

the cause of Sanawar and Old Sanawarians. He takes over as the Vice President, of OSS.

Gunjeet Singh Syal (Secretary) enrolled in Form-II to graduate in 2000. His connection with Sanawar extends beyond his student years, as

he married his batchmate, Ruhi Walia, and together they have two daughters Ruhbani and Aalya who too received part of their education at

Sanawar. During his time at the school, Gunjeet represented the school in Basketball, Soccer, and Hockey. He was Junior Prefect – Nilagiri(Senior).

 

Gunjeet is an Advocate with over fifteen years of experience, specializing in Income Tax, Benami Law, and Money Laundering Law, and 

particularly adept at handling intricate cases on search, seizure, and surveys. He is a featured speaker at various seminars and conferences

and contributes regularly to various tax journals.

 

Beyond his practice, Gunjeet is committed to serving his community. He is on the Board of Trustees of Guru Nanak Mission Hospital Trust

Jalandhar, Dr. Satya Paul Khosla Charitable Memorial Trust Jalandhar, Lyallpur Khalsa Group of Schools Jalandhar, and ATS Education

& Welfare Trust Mohali.

 

Gunjeet is dedicated to his alma mater and served on the Finance Committee of the LS(S)S in 2020-21. He represents the Society before

various Income Tax Authorities and provides legal expertise to both LS(S)S and OSS. He is the new all-important Secretary, OSS.

Kewal Singh Virk (Joint Secretary), Himalaya 1993, is an agriculturist with rich experience in the Real Estate sector. A second-generation

Sanawarian, he was House Captain and represented the school in Squash (Nationals) and Athletics (IPSC), and was awarded the School 

Colours for them.


Upon completing his graduation, along with a certification in programming, he started as an Information Technology Programmer in Pune.

In 2008, he switched to the real estate industry as General Manager (Admin) in Indiabulls Real Estate and was part of the project team for
their hotel site (W Goa) in Vagator, Goa. In 2016, he packed his bags to return home to Chandigarh to manage his farm.

 

Kewal thrives in the outdoors – playing golf, traveling, and photography.

 

He was a Block Representative of the OSS Nominating Committee for three terms. He brings rich experience in Administration and Liaising

and is confident to meaningfully contribute as the new Joint Secretary, OSS.

Sanjana Ram (Member 1) (Nilagiri 1982-87) did her BBA (Marketing & Psychology) and then went on to Slippery Rock University, PA, USA.

She is a multifaceted professional and thought leader in Learning & Development, Facilitation, Operations & Customer Experience, driving

results in a global and matrixed environment.
 

She comes with a diverse career spanning 25+ years across industries such as Consulting, Luxury Automotive, ITES, Government & Travel

with global brands, in driving learning & leadership design, managing client services, digital transformation projects, and customer

journeys/experience. She is passionate about issues relating to sustainability, and women empowerment and has been an active leader in

CSR activities all through her professional career.

 

As an experienced, self-motivated professional, she brings valuable, diverse industry experience and skills in the L&D / Facilitation space

with a passion for working with new trends, people matter, and the energy that comes with it.

 

Her interests include running, theater (the Mobius strip), jazz ballet & different dance forms, music & experiential travel.

 

She joins the Executive as Member – Brand Communication.

Monalee Borah (Member 2), Himalaya 1997, spent her time in Sanawar learning and harnessing the power of free thinking. Sanawar taught

her life’s lessons – being humane and humble – making her the person she is today – strong, bold, and focused. She was the Games Captain

and took her duties very seriously, especially as a member of the Swimming and Basketball teams; her record as a student was thorough

and precise.

 

She completed her graduation in Psychology in 2000 from Loreto College, Calcutta University, and went on to complete her Master’s in

Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing Communications from the National Institute of Sales.

 

She is a professional Content Curator with 19+ years in brand communications, public relations, and crisis management. She has been on

both sides of the table, as a client and a media & public relations solutions representative, creating meaningful communications and brand

solutions that allow her to better understand brands/organizations and their media consumption needs. Her key competencies include

brand solutions, event solutions and planning, media buying, media strategy, content development, strategic planning, crisis management

and mitigation, and stakeholder engagement. She has worked in Automobile, Hospitality, Institutional education, Technology,

Telecommunications, FMCD, and Media & Advertising sectors.

 

She joins the Executive Committee as Member – Content Creation & Management.

Pratap Singh Bajwa (Member 3), Vindhya 1998, started his pre-schooling at St John’s High School, Chandigarh where his mother taught

elocution to junior classes. He joined Sanawar in Form II in 1989.

 

Pratap started in the Banking sector to then had a long association with the automotive industry.

 

He expresses his point of view through his words “My family name carries ‘The Falcon’ in its name. It resonates deeply with grit, valour,

precision, and respect”. Both his maternal and paternal grandfathers have donned the Olive Greens. He is extremely proud to have had a

sound education, breeding, and value systems.

 

With all his rich experience in Banking, Sports Management, Event Management, and Auto Retail, he brings Teamwork, Compassion,

Honesty, and Integrity to the table. He is always willing to learn and collaborate, giving his best to the OSS – helping to create the highest

benchmark for the next in line. He joins the Executive Committee as Member – Event Management.
