Dame Parveen June Kumar – 1958 – SGD 

Professor Dame Parveen Kumar, after leaving Sanawar she finished her education in England and then schooled at St. Bartholomew’s in medicine. She then stayed on in England and went on to marry Dr. David Leaver. 

She has held many national and international positions in the field of medicine and has also authored medical textbooks. Dame Parveen has received many honours and honorary degrees. She was awarded the CBE and DBE, Dame Commander of the British Empire, last year by her Majesty, the Queen for her contribution to medicine and medical education. 

Dame Praveen Kumar has never forgotten the education and values learnt here in Sanawar. She has been described as an excellent clinician, an exceptional teacher and pre-eminent physician of her generation. She is a physician and gastroenterologist and also teaches, examines and lectures medical students and young doctors in the UK and all over the world. 

She is currently Professor of Medicine and Education at Barts and The London School of Medicine, Queen Mary University of London.
