"Dear Sanawarians,
On 15th Dec 2020 we lost our dear friend, Maj Kuljit Singh Suri, to Covid 19. He was a coursemate friend and a true blooded Sanawarian, from Vindhya House 1960 batch. Kuljit, lovingly called Crow by all coursemates was an epitome of an officer and gentleman, who always had a smile on his face, a mischievous sense of humor with a poker face and the inner softness to lend a helping hand to his friends, colleagues and more so his subordinates. He was a better listener but when he expressed his profound opinion it was by looking a person in the eye and was unafraid to express what he truly felt. It was as if he’d been sitting on a branch, like the intelligent crow, keenly observing and listening to whatever transpired. His views were candid, unbiased and delivered with clinical clarity. Amazingly our Crow was usually right. In Sanawar he was a sportsman in every sense of the word. He represented the school team in soccer, hockey, boxing and athletics. We joined the NDA on 12Jul1961, the day the Khadakwasla dam gave way as a result of another damn upriver collapsing due to incessant rain. Since that day our 26th NDA Course was known as the ‘Dambusters’. In the NDA too Kuljit excelled in sports as he was in the Academy hockey and soccer teams. We got commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery on 27Jun65, from IMA Dehradun and Crow’s first unit, as a 2/Lt, was 70 Medium Regiment. He left the Army prematurely as a Major to join the hospitality industry and was the Senior Manager of the Surya Hotel in New Friends Colony, New Delhi, for a prolonged tenure. His ex employees had nothing but praise for his integrity and fairness. We became even closer to him, Dolly and their three lovely daughters; after he left the Army and later joined our 26th NDA Dambusters Group. Words fail me to express in emotional terms the love and affection us coursemates, some of us Sanawarians, shared with Crow. Our course group is a virtual pillar of support for Dolly and the girls. Crow, we know you’re up there still seeing and hearing us. Our love and respect for you will never diminish with time. RIP dear friend. " Col Rupinder Singh Brar(Retd) Siwalik, 1959 Batch, 26th NDA Course 35th Regular Course IMA.
Our heartfelt condolences to his wife Mrs Dolly Suri and daughters.
