“Manny” or MJS, as we all knew him, passed away peacefully on 10.6.20 in Queenstown, New Zealand. He had settled there many years ago in a beautiful home.
A colourful personality who spoke his mind, a naughty wide smile & a twinkle in his eye characterised MJS. In school, he was perpetually stretching the boundaries of rules with his youthful antics but knew how to get out of trouble. Sports & Academics were on the periphery of his agenda ! At our 50th Anniversary Celebrations in S’na in 2014, when many of us last met him, he held forth in great detail about the plight of the marginal farmer. It was a new facet to the Manny we had grown up with. Our Batch last heard from him about a week ago when he had again sent another set of lovely pictures of the NZ landscape of his region. He faced his illness with great fortitude. Never a word of complaint or regret. Is this another example of our “Never Give In” motto ? In summation maybe it is best to quote Manny himself who, in one his recent letters to Lokinder, our batch-mate wrote “ I think I have scored a few runs around” .
Our prayers are with his wife Shammi , children Aftaab & Govind and their Family.
