Obituary: Sunil Ahuja, OS 61

Sunil Ahuja joined the IAS at 21, (1967 batch) and was the first district commissioner of Kurukshetra. He was educated between St. Paul’s in London and at Sanawar (1961 batch) and went on to complete his graduation at Panjab University. He later specialised in Development Economics at Williams College, Massachusetts, with a focus on agriculture, and served in several divisions of government, both central and for Haryana state with that focus. An avid, and old school shikari with a profound love of conservation and nature, his knowledge of the natural world and ecology guided his policy on agricultural economics. He retired as Chief Secretary of Haryana in 2005. Ahuja was born in Kasauli, in 1945, and he was cremated there on 29 October 2020. 

 

He is survived by his wife Payal Khurana and two sons: Naman, the elder is also a Nilgarian, was at Sanawar from 1986 to 1991, and Sukhad too attended Sanawar, briefly in 1992. Obituary
