“Paty” (HBD 1981-90) passed away on June 16, 2020. He had been gravely ill for a few weeks. He fought the good fight, but he couldn’t cope anymore. The big Sardar with the warm eyes and the beaming smile is no longer with us.
He was a founder-member of the class of 1990, having joined in Form II in Prep School. He was a talented hockey player, a plucky batsman, an amateur humourist of some renown. He was a voracious consumer of the news, reading the papers in Birdwood every day. His depiction of Zail Singh in a House Show will live on in legend. An active engagement with politics was a habit that stayed with him.
Paty’s unfailingly cheerful disposition won him new friends in Khalsa College in Delhi University, and later in the Law Faculty. After completing his education, he was a well-known farmer in Karnal. There was always a place at his table, a bed in his home, a chair by his side at the farm, for whoever was passing through. His highest compliment of another was always “dil da saaf hai”. He was utterly without malice; indeed, he had the best heart of all of us.
He loved the outdoors. He was sporty and fit, and met all obstacles with squared shoulders and his trademark grin.
He was a loving and dutiful son and brother, a doting husband and father, and a stalwart friend. He will be missed.
He leaves behind his wife Cheena; his mother; his sister Kunjan (HGD 1991); and his children Simar, Pavi (Present Sanawarians) and Abhay.
